Sounds like a big statement doesn’t it? But it is true.

When a tooth is extracted the roots are as well. Missing tooth roots are the leading cause of jaw bone resorption. Your teeth are attached to your jaw bone by tooth roots, so when you bite or chew, these roots physically stimulate the jaw bone, helping it maintain a healthy mass. If you lose your natural teeth, your bone won’t receive physical stimulation, causing shrinkage. Jaw shrinkage is one of the main reasons that a person looks older.

Implants replace missing single teeth, multiple teeth and even dentures. The titanium screw that is implanted into the jaw mimics the root of a tooth and ensures that the jaw retains its mass.

We can use implants to replace a single tooth or to hold a denture in place turning back time to when you had your original teeth.

After lengthy consultations with the dentist and oral surgery you will be booked in to have the screw implanted into the jaw. This is actually a very painless process with most patients only having to use panadol for the first 24 hours afterwards.

There is a healing period of approximately three months before the dentist can take impressions to make the new tooth that will fit into the screw and stay there permanently.
