Aligners

Aligners are a discreet way to gently straighten your teeth.  A series of removable, clear aligners (like a very thin mouthguard) are fitted and must be worn for 22 hours a day to be effective.

You can remove them to eat and brush your teeth and the almost invisible look allows you to achieve the smile of your dreams without people noticing.

They work by gently guiding your teeth into their new desired position, with each set moving the teeth a tiny bit more.

The Process

Step 1
Call our gentle Dental Receptionist on 035484601 to book a consultation to see if aligners will work for you.

Step 2
At that appointment we will carry out a full assessment to really check the health of your mouth, teeth, gums and jaw and we will take a digital scan of your teeth.

Step 3
After the consent process (where we go through the diagnosis and treatment plan and explain the projected results) the aligners are made.

Step 4
After your aligners are fitted, you will have appointments with us every 6 - 8 weeks, where you will get a new set of aligners.
You will need to wear retainers overnight after treatment is complete to ensure lasting results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are braces more effective than aligners?

The choice of whether to have braces or aligners is dependent on the amount of change necessary to get the smile you are looking for.

How long do I need to wear aligners?

The length of time for the aligners depends on the amount of adjustment needed however the average is 6-12 months. You will then need to wear overnight retainers as maintenance.

Can you have aligners with crowded teeth?

Yes you can. In fact it is sometimes easier to correct with aligners. Sometimes a small “button” is attached to a couple of teeth and an orthodontic band is used to assist the movement. This is removed as soon as the teeth are in the correct position.

Can you have aligners with gap teeth?

Aligners work very well to remove gaps in the teeth.

Is aligners treatment painful?

Not at all. The aligners are easy and comfortable to wear.

How do I eat with aligners?

You remove your aligners to eat and drink. It’s preferable to brush your teeth after eating and before you put them back in but not essential. Most people carry a little case to keep them in while they eat.

Will people be able to tell that I have aligners?

Most people will have no idea that you are wearing aligners as they are clear and perfectly fitted to the shape of your teeth.

Will my speech be affected?

No. Not at all.

What is the cleaning and maintenance of clear aligners?

We usually recommend cleaning one a day with a toothbrush and normal dish soap. Just make sure you wash it off well before putting them back in your mouth.
